Cynthia Nelson Clinic Opens New Location in Liberia
(Opening Ceremony for Paynesville Medical Clinic and Laboratory)
By Edwin Dour
Sunday, January 8 was a day of jubilation for PCS community dwellers who witnessed the official opening ceremony of the Paynesville Medical Clinic and Laboratory, held at Global Harvesters Assemblies, a local church in the community. The program which was well attended brought together an array of the community leadership, prominent residents, representatives from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Ahead national leadership. Speaking during a brief exhortation on the theme "good works", Pastor Quiah who is also the community's Chair hosted Ahead's effort as a true and selfless manifestation intended to impact the lives of vulnerable communities, beginning with the Cynthia Nelson Clinic in Logan Town and then the Paynesville Medical Clinic and Laboratory

NEW LIFE BIBLE CHURCH GROWTH
The church held a mini convention in Ganta, about a six hour drive outside Monrovia. The reception was awesome as we watched the power of the Lord manifested ion so many ways. The occasion also coincided with the official launching of the New Life Bible Church in Ganta. The new church has about 120 members; they are mostly new believers who are very hungry for the word of God.

MEDICAL SERVICES
Jacqueline paid just one prenatal visit during the entire length of her pregnancy, ignoring adherence to health measures, medications and frequent check-ups until she was rushed to Cynthia Nelson Clinic around 2:00 am on a Wednesday morning, fully dilated. With barely any time and without her current medical history, she instantly presented with signs of true labor and early delivery. Precisely three minutes afterwards she gave birth to a male child (wt. 4.5kg) with normal APGAR score, but she sustained gross cervical laceration with profuse post partum hemorrhage (estimated 1.5 liters blood loss) that was brought to sudden arrest by the valiant efforts of a team headed by RN Precious B. Mccay, Head Nurse. |

CLEAN DRINKING WATER PROGRAM
We successfully launched the clean water program in Liberia. Two well drilling rigs were acquired and shipped to Liberia to drill wells for clean drinking water for locals. The program got off to a great start with nine wells being drilled between November 01 and December 08, 2011, well on course to achieve our goal of 11 wells in 2011. These water wells are quickly becoming a critical source of drinking water for entire communities as we seek to help ease the agony amongst the poor in Liberia. |

KINGS ACADEMY — A True Quest for Excellence
King’s Academy, located in the suburbs of Paynesville in the Coca Cola Factory community, has become a blessing to many children whose future lacks the initial ingredients of preparation—academic preparedness, moral awareness, physical and mental fitness, and standard healthcare and nutrition.
There are almost three hundred children in the school ranging from pre-school to fifth grade. 80% of the children are pre-school to kindergarten; this demographic coincides with our goal of reaching the nation of Liberia at a very young age. They are fed twice a week, and once a month they hold a Saturday rally where the entire community is invited to participate.
Living conditions in this arid community are below average, and many dwellers strive tirelessly and endlessly to make ends meet. Ahead International has brought relief and light to this community by catering to the basic aspects of the children’s lives and providing a sense of renewal: ensuring they are able to read, write and speak fluently, transformation through the Gospel and the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, providing basic health and nutritional needs through feeding programs and routine medical checkups. King’s is making a difference and will proudly celebrate its first level graduates in June 2013. As the festive season draws nearer, there is a sober reflection on our Lord and Savior, marked by other activities and sharing gifts amongst the children. At this time of the year, let’s demonstrate our love for these kids who have not felt truly embraced and cherished. Help us help them and be a blessing in the Lord’s vineyard. PLEASE SHARE WITH THEM. IT IS NOT TOO LATE.
Please pray with us as we endeavor to accomplish the following milestones over the next twelve months:
*Introduce the Abeka Curriculum for pre-school through sixth grade
*Complete the contracted purchase of the school land @ $5,000.00
*Increase the feeding program to three days per week. Additional $50.00 per = $200.00 per month.
*Reinforce the existing school building and expand the number of classrooms

CLEAN WATER PROJECT TAKES OFF
Liberia is only recently beginning to recover from fourteen years of a brutal civil war that left nearly 250,000 people dead and nearly a million displaced. The length, ferocity and indiscriminate nature of the conflict left the country’s infrastructures in ruins. The war compounded the sufferings of millions of Liberians who, even before the war, had little or no access to basic human needs such as safe drinking water and basic sanitation. For the majority of Liberians, ground water fetched from shallow wells, streams, or rivers remains the primary source of drinking water. |

Evelyn’s Story of Faith
As Liberia digs out of the remains of her troubled past, the capital city, Monrovia, is quickly falling prey to over population and congestion. With limited streets to accommodate the rising number of automobiles, transportation poses a significant problem for most residents.
Motorcycles, because of their smaller size and maneuverability, have become the source of transportation for the average person. Besides, the cost of a motorcycle is less than what one would have to pay for a taxi cab. |

Martha Lyn's Three Miracles
Martha Lyn was barely two years old when her mother tried to escape the rapidly advancing rebels during the Liberian civil war. Her mother strapped her to her back and took off but she was little too late. The rebel battalion caught up with her, pushed her down to the ground and had their way with her. Martha Lyn’s little body was trapped beneath the whole time being crushed by the weight of my mother and the men that assaulted her repeatedly. |
